Today we're going to talk about something super important for doing well in school. 0:17 Listening. Listening isn't just about hearing words. It's about really understanding what's being said. How can good listening skills improve academic success? 0:28 Listening helps us learn new things. It helps us follow directions, like when your teacher gives you instructions. It helps you ask good questions and join class discussions. 0:38 Listening is key to getting better at reading, writing, and even math. There are different types of listening. Active listening is when you focus really hard on the speaker. 0:50 You look at the person, nod, and think about what they're saying. It helps you remember things better. Critical listening is when you listen to decide if something is true. 1:01 It's useful for when you're solving problems or learning new facts. Empathetic listening is when you listen to understand someone's feelings. 1:10 It helps you be a good friend and classmate. So here are some tips for being a great listener. Face the speaker. 1:20 Look at your teacher or friend when they're talking to you. Don't interrupt while others are talking. Ask questions if you don't understand. 1:29 Repeat back what you heard to make sure that you got it right. Good listening helps you succeed. Good listening equals better grades, better friendships, and more fun in school. 1:44 When you listen well, you can understand lessons faster and avoid mistakes. Everyone experiences challenges. As a matter of fact, Christina Aguilera says it this way, the roughest roads often lead to the top. 0:23 So, how do we overcome challenges? First, stay positive. You choose to choose what to focus on. This doesn't mean only positive things happen, it just means you choose to focus on the positive. 0:35 Secondly, seek support. You need guidance and encouragement from a network. You need friends, family members, parents, community members, and educators on your team when you need guidance and support to overcome challenges. 0:48 Number three, build resilience. Accept challenges will come and cause emotional upset, but you can bounce back. Next, practice adaptability. Adjust easily when things don't go as expected. 1:02 Remember that differences can actually be better. some self-care. The better you take care of yourself, the better you'll be able to overcome challenges. 1:13 And also, build problem-solving skills. Remind yourself of how you've overcome in the past, and use those skills to help you overcome things in the future. 1:24 Those become your skills and strategies for overcoming. Most importantly, give yourself some time. Practicing new skills can be a challenge, but as you face emotional upset in relationship to that challenge, you can remind yourself that you've overcome before and access one or two skills that you've 1:43 used successfully in the past. What is online safety? Online safety means protecting yourself while using the internet. It's important to know how to stay safe when you're online. Why is online safety important? Privacy. It protects your personal information from strangers. Cyberbullying. It helps you to know how to handle negative behavior online. Trustworthy sources. It helps us learn to recognize safe websites. How to stay safe online. Here are some tips. Keep personal information private. Don't share for your full. Google name, address, or phone number. Remember that everything you share online is public and permanent. Use strong passwords. Create unique passwords for each account. Think before you click. Be cautious about links and downloads. What to do if you feel uncomfortable. Tell Always talk to a trusted adult if something doesn't add doesn't feel right. Block or report. Use features to block or report anyone who is unkind. Stay calm. It's okay to feel uneasy. Your safety is the most important. You are in control. You can control your online experience. Only connect with people you know in real life.
